Cable Channel 4 operations are funded by cable subscribers
Wouldn't alternative viewpoints of the operations of Clark County Government be valuable to you? Imagine shows on TV Channel 4 with Clark County residents, candidates and elected officials discussing possible solutions to our many problems. Why not have shows that residents could call in and join the discussion on the issues of the day? Could this be a way that Clark County could use an Innovative way to live up to it's mission statement of "Open and Inclusive Government"?
The Clark County Mission Statement should be more than words. It talks about Innovation, Integrity, Open and inclusive Government and Respect. "Actively encouraging citizens to access and participate in government process" and "Freedom to creatively formulate new concepts, approaches, and methodologies; continuously learning by seeking out and encouraging others to pursue venues for gaing knowledge through education, training, feedback, and other learning oportunities." should be treated with Integrity and Respect in Clark County Government. These words should be acted upon and not just listed in the Mission Statement.
Cox Cable subscribers pay $6.2 million in annual franchise fees to Clark County and Clark County only pays out $600,000 for staff of 6.5 employees to produce Channel 4. What does the other $5.4 million get spent on and why should it cost $600,000 to produce the channel?
Mr Pappa spoke of Channel 4 as a "Government Access Channel" and what I was asking for was called a "Community Access Channel". Did the residents give our Clark County Government the right to decide that Channel 4 could only be used to promote positive presentations about our Government? Shouldn't the residents be able to have community access of the Government Access Channel 4? After all, we pay the bill.
