In 2002, I ran against Tom Collins when he was running for re-election. The Democrat Party told me that I should not run against Tom Collins because he was an elected Democrat official. Even though I had called, sent letters and emailed Assemblyman Tom Collins many times, he never responded. I did meet with him right after I signed to run for office. After about 1 hour of discussions, I decided to stay in the race because I could see that Assemblyman Tom Collins was never going to represent me or my ideas.
In 2004 he hand picked Marilyn Kirkpatrick to replace him because he was going to run for Clark County Commission B. This time it was an open seat that now City Councilman Ricki Barlow also ran in. Marilyn Kirkpatrick won in a 3 way race.
