Citizens have no effective review of Judges and Lawyers!
The divorce I went through in 1996 was bad enough, but the Clark County Family Court system of justice was unbelievably worse. Judge Francis Fine's expressed attitudes and decisions had no basis in Nevada's rule of law. I filed a complaint letter regarding Judge Francis Fine with the Judicial Oversight Committee and I received a letter back that stated that they had investigated my complaint and found it to have no merit. I filed a complaint letter to the Nevada State Bar in regards to the incompetent representation by my lawyer and my ex-wife's lawyer. Both letters came back from the Nevada State Bar stating that they had investigated my complaint letter and have found it to have not merit. How could they have done much of an investigation when they never even spoke to me?
I testified at the Nevada Legislature regarding Joint Physical Custody in 2003 and 2005. The Nevada Senate Judicial Committee in 2005 had hearings of more than 20 hours of testimony of parents custody being taken away from them. The Senators hardly had any discussions with the residents of Nevada. The Committee in April 2005 voted to Amend and do pass SB109, but the amendments ruined the bill and the bill died. The 2007 Nevada Legislature did not even bring up SB109.
Collins told me in 2003 that the reason he votes as an Assemblyman against material change at Family Court is because women have a stronger lobby than men. WOW!!!!
Many times child support orders are not being paid. Unless the District Attorney's office can easily find access to cash, they normally do not impose penalties on the parent not paying the child support. Laws exist already, but are not being enforced. Why doesn't Collins do anything about this problem?
Why can there not be a Family Court system set up that does not require lawyers in disputed cases? Judges seem to be more comfortable with the lawyers than the litigants. Shouldn't the goal of Family Court be the best solution, in the quickest time at the lowest cost? I think this is possible, but Collins seems again to enjoy status quo again.
The current system of electing judges at Family Court also is not working. Unless a voter has unfortunately experienced Family Court, they would not understand the problems. "Juice vs. Justice"was a LVRJ article that showed campaign contributions to Judges influences their decisions. These campaign contributions should be disclosed in the court proceedings. The Missouri plan is being pushed by Judges in Nevada, but even Missouri does not want their system of getting Judges on the bench. Collins again is not working on solutions regarding Judges.
