Tom Collins is an alternative board member of Southern Nevada Health District.
District Court gave the Southern Nevada Health District Responsibility for the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act
Should this Nevada law be enforced, ammended or thrown out?
Only about 25% of Nevadans smoke. The Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act that stopped smoking in restaurants, taverns and other indoor public places passed by a small percentage of voters. Could this be the power of mob rule over the minority? Could there have been other ways to handle this problem other than a Nevada Constitutional amendment? What efforts has Collins been involved in to work on this problem before the election? I can find no record of any efforts by Collins.

This is a poorly written law with no funding mechanism to enforce and should never been presented to the voters as is. Why hasn't Collins not gotten involved in the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act that affects so many businesses and residents in Clark County Commission B? Is Collins anti-business or just anti-tavern? Is Collins anti-smoker? Is Collins anti-voter because he does not make sure that a law voted on by the people is enforced? Is Collins not interested because he does not frequent a tavern? Is Collins not interested because of his religious beliefs?

Nevada laws are supposed to be equally applied and equally enforced or we do not have the rule of law. This law is not equally applied because casinos are exempt. Also taverns with more that 15 machines are considered casinos and therefore exempt. Many taverns in Clark County are ignoring the law in many ways and the Clark County Health District is not actively enforcing the the Nevada Smoking Law.

Why is it that laws seem to want to make businesses pay more to operate? The residents of Nevada enjoy frequenting our businesses but always seem to want more regulation on businesses. Could there have been some kind of tax break or regulation adjustment for taverns, restaurants, and other indoor places to promote smoke free places in businesses? Did you know that the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act is concerned about restaurant employees health and not worried about bar and casino employees health? Why should we not be allowed to have restaurants that want to smoke and eat and let other restaurants not smoke and eat? Why can't there be a middle ground? Why isn't Collins leading the charge for Clark County Commission B?
