Why did Collins not demand financial statements for about a year?
Could it be that Collins does not demand monthly financial statements regarding the $56.5 million in losses at University Medical Center because he does not want any conflict with union employees at UMC? Is Collins just incompetent or uninterested in properly overseeing the affairs of the residents of Clark County? The taxpayers have now paid for the metro investigation in 2007 of former UMC boss Lacy Thomas and an independent audit in January 2007. Next will probably be a trial that will cost taxpayers allot of money. Most of these costs would have not been expended if Collins had demanded Monthly detailed financial statements. This would also assume that Collins would know which questions to ask and that he would ask them. Collins is indebted to Billy Vassiliadis of R & R Partners that has a $4.3 million annual advertising budget with UMC. $3.6 million of this contract goes to Brown and Partners that is owned by Vassiliadis. Why does UMC have such an advertising budget when private hospitals have annual advertising budgets of less than $1 million. Does this seem like some kind of "payoff"? "County taking its time to implement reform at UMC"was an article in the Las Vegas Sun in February 2007. "UMC fixes not expected to include service cuts"was an article in the Las Vegas Sun in September 2007. Does it seem to you that Collins is not really concerned how your tax dollars are spent? "UMC expenses explained" in LVRJ on August 22, 2007shows the disinterest that Collins has in watching over the fiscal affairs of UMC. The volume of patient days only increase slightly from 2005 to 2007 from 176,104 to 177,051. Professional fees rose 52%, supplies rose 23% and purchased services rose 22% during the same two years. The losses at UMC have wiped out more than half of the Clark County's budget to build parks, community centers and other discretionary projects. Could it be that UMC's losses affect you even if you do not use the UMC hospital?
